Coastal River Farmhouse

Here you can see what an amazing diversity of natural habitats and recreational / exploring opportunity surrounds the farmhouse. 

Eureka may be 85 miles south, but if you appreciate the outdoors, you will find it here.  

The farmhouse really is a converted farmhouse set in dairy pasture land.

It is also known as the Birdhouse, since the riparian strip of trees between it and the Smith River host a great diversity of warblers and songbirds, and the river and pasture are rich in water birds, waterfowl, and raptors.

Spring brings the apple blossoms, and if you come again in fall, you can enjoy the sweet fruit of this tree 

We enjoy sharing of our work and the good earth in providing fresh garden produce to guests.  If you wish to harvest, please ask first and be sure to take only what you use here at the farmhouse. 

The little house behind the garden is currently a deluxe doghouse, complete with a fenced sideyard. 

A short walk through a private gate leads you to this beautiful stretch of quiet river.  A great place for swimming in summer, fishing in fall, and enjoying respectfully all year round.

Look for river otter, beaver, and elk here, as well as the chorus of songbirds....

A 3 mile bike ride on quiet roads through flat pastureland (or a few minutes drive) will take you to Tolowa Dunes State Park. 

The park, formally named a few years ago, is largely undiscovered.  A place where views like this are encountered in solitude or with your friends.  Hike, bike, or ride to explore the trails that lead between the river and beach in this rare coastal ecosystem.

Trailriding is one of the delightful activities in the area.  We have pasture available for your horse (with your own portable fencing).

The Smith River is clean, clear, and wild for its whole length.  We can direct you to a variety of easy access points for swimming, tubing, kayaking, fishing and picnicing.
